About this kit

The Syphilis Blood Test Kit is a CE-marked lateral flow test for the qualitative detection of Treponema pallidum (syphilis) antibodies in whole blood, serum, or plasma. It uses a finger-prick blood sample. The result is read at 10 minutes. Do not interpret the result after 20 minutes.

Before you start

Wash your hands in warm water and dry them. Not collecting enough blood is the most common reason a blood test gives an invalid result, so read our guide to getting a good finger-prick blood sample first. Check the expiry date, set a timer and keep the instructions in your pack beside you. Use a new lancet for each test and never share a lancet. If you would like spares, we sell sterile 28G lancets in packs of 50 and 100.

How to do the test

Follow the step-by-step instructions supplied in your pack exactly. In outline:

  1. Collect a finger-prick blood sample.
  2. Apply it to the test cassette as the instructions describe.
  3. Start your timer straight away.
  4. Read the result at 10 minutes. Do not interpret the result after 20 minutes.

Reading your result

Use the result diagram in your pack. If the control line does not appear, the test has not run correctly and the result is invalid. The most common reason is not getting enough sample. You will need a new test to get a valid result.
