About this kit

The Gonorrhoea Test Kit (Swab) is a CE-marked lateral flow test for the qualitative detection of Gonorrhoea antigen in female cervical swab or male urethral swab specimens. The result is read at 10 minutes. Do not interpret the result after 30 minutes.

What is in the box

  • 1 sterile swab
  • 1 test cassette, individually foil-sealed
  • 1 extraction tube
  • 1 extraction reagent 1 (0.15 M NaOH)
  • 1 extraction reagent 2 (0.2 M HCl)
  • 1 package insert

The extraction reagents are chemical solutions. Keep them away from children and avoid contact with skin and eyes. If you get any on you, rinse with plenty of water.

Before you start

  • Wash and dry your hands and use a clean, flat surface.
  • Check the expiry date and that the test cassette pouch is sealed.
  • Set a timer and keep the package insert beside you.

How to do the test

  1. Take your swab sample (about 1 minute). Use a sterile swab, following the female cervical or male urethral collection method for your sex.
  2. Insert the swab into the extraction tube (about 30 seconds). Rotate the swab and press it against the side of the tube at least 10 times to release the sample into the solution.
  3. Remove the swab (about 30 seconds). Press the swab head against the inside of the tube to expel as much liquid as possible, then discard it and cap the tube.
  4. Add the solution to the test cassette (about 30 seconds). Hold the tube vertically and add 3 drops of the extracted solution to the specimen well.
  5. Wait, then read the result (10 minutes). Read the result at 10 minutes.

Reading your result

Use the result diagram in your pack. If the control line does not appear, the test has not run correctly and the result is invalid. The most common reason is not getting enough sample. You will need a new test to get a valid result.
